Dortmund and Bayern both win as title battle continues

Bundesliga round-up

Robert Lewandowski: Scored a goal in each half as Borussia Dortmund won 3-1 at Wolfsburg

Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich continue to trade blows in the Bundesliga title race after both clubs picked up another three points.

Robert Lewandowski scored a brace as reigning champions, and current leaders, Dortmund enjoyed a 3-1 win at Wolfsburg.

Lewandowski opened the scoring midway through the first half and the highly-rated Ilkay Gundogan doubled the lead four minutes after half-time.

Jakub Blaszczykowski was then denied by the crossbar on 59 minutes and Wolfsburg were back in the game two minutes later through Mario Mandzukic.

However, Wolfsburg had Alexander Madlung sent off for a second bookable offence with six minutes to go and Lewandowski made certain of the points with his second goal in the last minute.

Bayern remain three points behind their title rivals after being forced to battle for a 2-1 home success over lowly Augsburg.

The UEFA Champions League semi-finalists would have been thinking an easy afternoon was in store when Mario Gomez opened the scoring inside the opening minute.

Augsburg, though, drew level on 23 minutes through Ja-Cheol Koo and it was left to the prolific Gomez to score the winner on the hour mark.

Cologne collected another point in their battle to climb to safety after coming from behind to draw 1-1 at home with Werder Bremen.

Markus Rosenberg opened the scoring for Bremen on 24 minutes, but Ammar Jemal levelled for Cologne six minutes before half-time.

Bottom club Kaiserslautern remain deep in the relegation mire after slipping to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Hoffenheim.

Goals from Sejad Salihovic, from the penalty spot, and Boris Vukcevic put Hoffenheim in command before Alexander Bugera scored a late consolation for Kaiserslautern.

Freiburg recovered from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 at home with Nurnberg as the struggling duo battle for top-flight survival.

Nurnberg were in control of the game at half-time after Daniel Didavi's early opener was followed up by Tomas Pekhart's goal in stoppage-time.

Daniel Caligiuri pulled a goal back for Freiburg from the penalty spot on 53 minutes and the equaliser arrived 11 minutes from time through Cedric Makiadi.

Vedad Ibisevic scored a second-half brace as Stuttgart got over conceding an early goal to run out 4-1 winners at home over Mainz.

Andreas Ivanschitz's third minute penalty had given Mainz a dream start, only for Tamas Hajnal to level just four minutes later.

Ibisevic headed Stuttgart in front four minutes after the interval and, after Zdravko Kuzmanovic scored from the penalty spot, he notched his second of the game with five minutes left.
