Clarke to lead Team GBTop scorer at three World Cups wins Paralympics squad place
Dave Clarke: Will fulfil a lifetime dream by playing at this summer's Olympics in London Three-time Golden Boot winner Dave Clarke will lead Great Britain's bid for football gold at the Paralympics after the squads were named. Clarke is the squad's most experienced player, having been a member of the first team to compete at a Paralympic Games in Beijing four years ago. He will lead the five-a-side team, for players with visual impairment, in their bid for success at this summer's Games. Clarke has revealed having the chance to shine on home soil with the prospect of a gold medal on offer is the realisation of a 'lifetime dream'. "The confirmation of my place in the squad is the realisation of a lifetime dream and a unique chance to compete at the pinnacle of my sport and on home soil in front of our own fans," he said. Included in the seven-a-side squad, for players with cerebral palsy, are Martin Sinclair, brother of Swansea winger Scott Sinclair, and Michael Barker, who used to play at Everton's academy alongside Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. ParalympicsGB Chef de Mission Craig Hunter welcomed the 22 footballers who made the squads, saying: "Their selection is undoubtedly the culmination of many years of hard work and I'd like to congratulate every one of them." Seven-a-side squad: Craig Connell, Billy Thompson, George Fletcher, Matt Dimbylow, Blair Glynn, Josh Beacham, Martin Sinclair, Jonathan Paterson, James Richmond, Alistair Hesleton, Ibrahim Diallo, Michael Barker. Five-a-side squad: Dan James, Lewis Skyers, Dave Clarke, Dan English, Darren Harris, Robin Williams, Keryn Seal, Lee Brunton, Will Norman, Roy Turnham.
