Eagles hit injury ravaged WolvesEastbourne ease to home win
Lewis Bridger: Top scorer for Eastbourne (Pic credit Mike Hinves) Eastbourne Eagles earned a convincing 54-38 win over an injury hit Wolverhampton Wolves at Arlington. The South Coast outfit dominated from the off and never looked like not gaining maximum points, and the fact their lowest scorer was guest Ed Kennett with paid nine, sums up how dominant. But Wolves could not cope with the loss of three riders during the meeting with Ty Proctor, Ricky Wells and Pontus Aspgren. And to their credit Wolves' top three Freddie Lindgren, Tai Woffinden and Nicolai Klindt all hit double figures, but they could not get near Eastbourne. Eastbourne Team Manager and Co-promoter Trevor Geer said: "We really needed that result after our double defeat against Lakeside. "The lads were much more competitive away from the starts and that helped us cope well with their big guns, especially in the early stages and that allowed us to build up a useful lead. "Fortunately for us by the time their heat leaders really got dialled in and started to hit back at us we had the match pretty much sewn up." Remarking on the busy schedule ahead for the Sussex side, Geer continued "The 16-point win against Wolves proved a good morale boost for the team as we travel to both Wolverhampton and Peterborough on Monday and Thursday this coming week." Eastbourne are now waiting to hear on the fitness of Simon Gustafsson ahead of the return fixture at Wolverhampton on Saturday, after he was injured riding in Poland earlier in the week. Wolves say they will monitor the progress of their injured riders Proctor, Aspgren and Wells.
