The BMC rider retired midway through last Sunday's Amstel Gold Race and will not be risked ahead of the Tour de Romandie, which runs from April 24-29.

"Cadel has the Tour de Romandie coming in one week and with his infection, we don't want to take any risks," BMC team doctor Max Testa said.

"Weather conditions aren't in his favour. Rain and cold conditions are forecast. It was the best decision to take in the interests of the rider."

Fleche Wallonne, which Evans won in 2010, takes place on Wednesday, followed on Sunday by Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
