Priced at 16-1 by Paddy Power, Fencing looked above-average when taking a Listed race at Newbury in August and was then third, beaten two and a half lengths, by Camelot in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.

"He's in the Guineas and he might well go for the Craven Stakes," said Gosden.

"He was third in the Racing Post to Camelot, who was beyond exceptional that day.

"William Buick rode him for the first time again the other day and said he felt stronger.

"He's a relaxed and happy horse and we'll see how he gets on. He may turn out to be best at a mile and a quarter and turn into a Jockey Club (French Derby) horse."

Gosden's other 2000 Guineas entry Eastern Sun is likely to appear at Kempton this weekend.

The trainer has a handful of other Investec Derby possibles like Shantaram, who was a close second on his only start at Sandown, and Jungle Beat, unbeaten from one outing at Newbury in the summer.

Gosden explained he wanted to "feel my way" with them, adding the former could be one for the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.

As the winning trainer of the previous two Ladbrokes St Legers, and three of the last five, Gosden knows what it takes to land the final Classic of the season.

Step forward Thought Worthy, successful in a back-end maiden at Newcastle.

"He won his only start and might be a Leger type," Gosden said.
