NHL: Wings in play-offsDetroit clinches post-season berth in styleThe Detroit Red Wings are in the play-offs again Tomas Holmstrom scored twice while Henrik Zetterberg and Todd Bertuzzi provided four assists apiece as the Detroit Red Wings confirmed their NHL play-off spot with a 7-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night. The Red Wings led 4-0 at the end of the first period through Holmstrom's pair and goals from Gustav Nyquist and Jiri Hudler, before Nicklas Lidstrom and Brad Stuart tallied in the second. Pavel Datsyuk made it 7-0 at the start of the third before Mark Letestu and Rick Nash restored some pride for Columbus. The win ensured Detroit will play in the post-season for a 21st straight season. Two goals from Daniel Alfredsson helped Ottawa to a 6-4 win over the Winnipeg Jets. Alfredsson put the Senators 4-3 ahead before Evander Kane levelled, then scored what proved to be the decisive goal to make it 5-4. Only goalManny Malhotra scored the only goal 3:05 into the first period to lead the Vancouver Canucks to a 1-0 win at the Los Angeles Kings and Joe Pavelski scored twice in the San Jose Sharks' 5-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Steven Stamkos scored a team-record 53rd of the season to help the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, while Mike Cammalleri had a pair in the Calgary Flames' 5-4 victory over the Dallas Stars. |
