Smith was lined up by the Stars for the 2012 squad, but Smith broke his leg riding in his native Australian over the winter.

That left The Stars needed a new man to share a role with David Howe, and they have turned to Frampton.

Stars team boss Rob Lyon believes Jordan will provide good back up to Howe.

"Jordan is a very determined rider who is quick and isn't afraid to mix it, that is the sort of rider you need to be in Elite League," he said.

"I am sure he will provide a good back up to David when called upon."
