Time to bow outWebber puts final pieces together for Aintree
Time For Rupert: Roughed off for the season Time For Rupert has been roughed off for the season after Paul Webber decided against running him at Aintree on Thursday. Initially after finishing fifth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup Webber was inclined to call it a day for the campaign but, after his charge apparently recovered from his exertions in good form, he was entered in the Liverpool Hurdle and the Betfair Bowl over fences. However, he was not declared for either of those two races on Tuesday and will now go off for a holiday. "We just decided that he'd had a long enough season so we'll pack him off," said Webber. "His blood was just not quite 100% either when we tested him so it was an easy decision. He had a hard race at Cheltenham in the Gold Cup so we'll bring him back fresh nest year. Festival Disappointments"The horses that ran at Cheltenham that I've seen at Fairyhouse this week have disappointed and the Aintree races are usually won by fresh horses." Webber may still be represented at the big meeting with some of his other inhabitants, however. "We've entered Alasi in the Manifesto Chase on Thursday but we're just trying to work out what will run, I think Al Ferof and Champion Court will go and there's a mares' race at Cheltenham she could go for instead," added Webber. "We've put Australia Day in the reopened novices' chase on Saturday and Devon Drum in the bumper, he's a very promising horse."
