GB opened the tournament with a late 3-2 defeat to hosts Slovenia, however tournament favourites Austria, who are looking to bounce back to the elite division at the first attempt, proved much tougher opposition.

GB found themselves 3-0 down inside 10 minutes following goals from Thomas Hundertpfund (powerplay), Gregor Baumgartner and Manuel Latusa.

Baumgartner added a fourth early in the second period but Colin Shields got GB on the board and he scored his second after Matthias Trattnig had made it 5-1.

A powerplay goal from Latusa saw GB call a time-out, Corey Neilson (powerplay) got a third before Raphael Herburger rounded off the scoring.

GB will look to bounce back against Ukraine on Wednesday.
