Brown - Bhoys are perfect

Celtic skipper believes current squad can handle expectation

Brown - Bhoys are perfect

Scott Brown: Has faith in those already on the books at Parkhead

Scott Brown insists there is no need for an influx of fresh faces at Celtic, with it his opinion that the newly-crowned Scottish Premier League champions are just about 'perfect'.

With a first title in four years safely wrapped up on Saturday, with a 6-0 mauling of Kilmarnock, thoughts at Parkhead have already started to turn towards next season.

Progress through the UEFA Champions League qualifiers is considered to be a must, with a lucrative standing in the group stage required to bring much-needed funding into the club.

Brown is aware that Celtic will once again find themselves under intense pressure to deliver on the field, but he refuses to buy into the belief that a number of older, more experienced heads would help them to hit their targets.

He told the Daily Record: "It would be great to have Maradona and Pele make a comeback. Seriously, the team is pretty much perfect as it is and we proved it by winning the league by 18 points.

"That shows we don't need older, experienced pros. The lads are mature enough to understand this is a big club and although there is a lot of pressure on us to win every week, they want to be here and enjoy that. They want to win trophies.

Pressure

"If we play like we did at Rugby Park we will put anyone under a lot of pressure, the way we press people high up the park and force them to make mistakes before winning the ball back.

"Once you force teams to make mistakes high up the park and keep counter-attacking then eventually they will crack, as happened at the weekend."

While Celtic are already starting to draw up plans for 2012/13, Brown admits there is still a job to finish this season.

He added: "This season is definitely not over.

"We have a Scottish Cup semi-final against Hearts this weekend, and hopefully a final, and five big games left in the league."
