00:09 QPR fail in Derry appeal |
QPR fail in Derry appealMidfielder will miss Swansea match as part of one-game banThe Football Association has rejected Queens Park Rangers' appeal against the red card of Shaun Derry. A claim of wrongful dismissal was submitted for the veteran midfielder after he was sent off in Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Manchester United. But the FA rejected QPR's decision to contest the red card and Derry will now miss Wednesday's match against Swansea at Loftus Road as his one-game ban. A short statement on the FA's official website read: "Queens Park Rangers midfielder Shaun Derry will serve a one-match suspension with immediate effect after his claim of wrongful dismissal was rejected by a Regulatory Commission today [Tuesday 10 April]. "Derry was dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity in the Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday 8 April 2012." The 34-year-old was adjudged to have tripped Ashley Young to give away a penalty in QPR's defeat at United to earn his red card. Replays suggested the decision was harsh and that England international Young had been offside in the build-up to the incident.
