10:58 Smith preparations on track |
Smith preparations on trackPressure building for gymnast ahead of home OlympicsBritish gymnast Louis Smith is wary of being injured in the build-up to the Olympic Games in London. Smith, a bronze medallist on the pommel horse in Beijing four years ago, recently suffered a fractured finger, although it did not prevent him competing and finishing second on his favourite apparatus in the World Cup event in China at the end of March. "For any athlete training, putting in the amount of work they do, their pinnacle is to get to the Olympic Games and to push to be the best. Nobody wants a setback or an injury," Smith, a UPS ambassador, told Sky Sports. "We have a fantastic medical team, ready to try and prevent those injuries happening in the first place. "You just have to take it with a pinch of salt. When we are pushing our bodies to the limit, aches and pains and injuries are inevitable." RoutineSmith is keen to leave no stone unturned in his Olympic preparations. "It's better to have the hardest routine prepared in case I need it," he said. "And if the time comes when I'm in the final and I just need an easier routine, then I can choose that one. "But I wouldn't want to be caught out where I need the harder routine and I haven't got it prepared." On his recent performance in China, he added. "It was nice to go out there with a few problems and still be able to do well. "It was a real boost in confidence knowing that if I was fully fit and if I had done as much training as I could have, what could have happened. "Onwards and upwards, I have got a few competitions coming up and am feeling good." Isner-Serena for London?
