Michail Antonio: On-loan winger is hoping to help Sheffield Wednesday win promotion to the Championship

Sheffield Wednesday's on-loan winger Michail Antonio is relishing the chance to help the club return to the Championship.

The 22-year-old has been a revelation since joining the Owls from Reading in January until the end of the season, scoring three times in 10 appearances.

The South Yorkshire outfit are hot on the heels of their cross-city rivals Sheffield United in the race for automatic promotion this season and Antonio hopes to repay the club by helping them return to the second-tier.

"I'm just really enjoying the chance to play regular first-team football because I'm still young and playing games is the best thing for me at the moment," Antonio told Sky Sports.

Confidence

"I hope that the manager and fans think that I am playing well and doing a good job for the side, but all I can do is concentrate on my own game and try to improve each time I go out on the pitch.

"All we need to do is make sure that we win our games and then if something happens to United then great, but we can't afford to worry about them too much.

"If we win all our games and they win all theirs then at least we tried our best and we can go into the play-offs with a lot of confidence."

The Owls travel to Colchester United on Saturday, where Antonio enjoyed a three-month loan stint earlier this season, but he remains keen to put one over his former team-mates.

He added: "It is going to be nice to go back there and see the boys, but it will also be a weird one to line up against the side that I played for earlier in the season.

"I'm still going to go there and try my best to get the three points for Sheffield Wednesday because they are all going to be vital this season.

"I enjoyed my time at Colchester a lot and it was a great chance for me to go out on loan and get some confidence back.

"I didn't get many games last season and that can affect your confidence, so Colchester gave me the opportunity to play 16 games, grab a fair few goals and I couldn't really have asked for more from my time there really."
