Contador sets return dateSpaniard hopes to return from doping suspension at Eneco Tour
Alberto Contador: Is set to return to competition at the Eneco Tour on August 6 Alberto Contador has stated that he is hoping to return from his current doping suspension at the Eneco Tour in early August. The six-stage tour of the Benelux countries starts on August 6, the very day that Contador will be eligible to return to competition. The Spaniard is currently serving a retrospective two-year ban for testing positive for the banned substance clenbuterol at the 2010 Tour de France. Contador also stated that he also plans to take part in the Clasica de San Sebastian on August 14 before lining up for the Vuelta a Espana four days later. "I will probably return before (the Clasica de San Sebastian) at the Eneco Tour. For the first time, I can say for sure that I will be at the Vuelta a Espana," he told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope. Worlds aimContador, who will be returning to the Vuelta for the first time since winning his home Grand Tour in 2008, is also hoping to gain a spot on the Spanish national team for at September's World Championships in the Netherlands. He added: "I would like to do both (the road race and the time trial). In the time trial there are some steep slopes that I think could favour me, while in the road race there might be some riders who are better prepared than me." Contador's suspension means he is currently without a team and the 29-year-old is reportedly attracting attention from several top-tier outfits. However, the two-time Tour de France champion says he wants to return with his previous team Saxo Bank, with whom he won the Giro d'Italia in 2011 before being stripped of that result due to the ban. "My first priority is Saxo Bank. They have supported me unconditionally throughout knowing everything that happened," Contador said. "Both the manager and the sporting director have been fantastic, and that means a lot. I couldn't give a value to the support they have given me and that is why I can't see my future being anywhere other than Saxo Bank."
