Wolves chief hits back at Ince rumours

Connor remains defiant

Terry Connor: Confident he will see out the season as Wolves boss despite rumours over his future

Terry Connor is confident he will remain in charge of Wolves until the end of the season despite another defeat at Stoke.

In a week in which Paul Ince has made himself available to take over at Molineux, Connor saw his side crash to a sixth successive Barclays Premier League defeat.

Michael Kightly had given them a 26th-minute lead but goals from Robert Huth and Peter Crouch left them six points adrift of safety with six games left.

Afterwards Connor, who has taken just a point since taking over from Mick McCarthy, denied speculation he could be replaced by the likes of Ince, telling ESPN: "I don't pay any attention to it.

"Paul Ince hasn't worked at this club for a number of years. I'm in charge and I've got a job to do.

"That's what I've been asked to do by the club. I've not been told any different.

"It's been a tremendous challenge. It's been an honour and a privilege to manage Wolves. I just wish I could get some results for the fans of this club."

Hard to take

It was the third consecutive game Wolves have led only to miss out on the points, but Connor believes his side have shown enough to believe they can still avoid the drop.

"It's hard to take. I thought we played really well and deserved to take something from the game," added Connor, who also criticised referee Mark Halsey for awarding the free-kick that led to Huth's leveller.

"There was no foul committed. I think we should defend it better - we were a bit deep - but there was no foul for Mark to give.

"We've done well in the last three games. We've taken the lead three times and not been able to see it through. With all the preparation we do it's hard not to see it through.

"If we are successful it will be on the back of things we did in the past three games. If we don't we're not good enough."
