Hammers smash Belle VueLakeside dominate opening matchKim Nilsson: Paid maximum for Lakeside (Pic credti TSG Photos) Lakeside Hammers dominated their opening match of the 2012 Sky Sports Elite League season as they beat Belle Vue Aces 61-32 at the Arena Essex Raceway. It was all too easy for Lakeside as they ran just two lasts in the whole meeting and showed why some are tipping them for success this season. It was one way traffic after the first couple of heats. New number one Peter Karlsson top-scored with paid 14. But there were no real weak links in the Lakeside line-up with fellow debutant Davey Watt showing his credentials with 11+2. Perhaps the star turn, though, was from Swedish reserve Kim Nilsson who came home with a paid maximum. Home promoter Jon Cook was understandably delighted with his side's performance, saying: "We were all very nervous before the start of the meeting and we didn't want to let our fans down, particularly after the huge crowd we had last week for our open evening. "We've worked very hard tonight and this is a fantastic way to start the season. We very are all very much looking forward to our next meeting to build on what we have achieved." Belle Vue had few answers with only Rory Schlein putting up any resistance with 13, which included a paid win. Schlein won two of Belle Vue's three wins on the night with Charlie Gjedde also claiming a three-point haul. Belle Vue were, though, weakened by the early loss of Dane Patrick Hougaard to a suspected broken collarbone. Team manager Jim Lynch said: "Patrick may have broken a collarbone and we are waiting to hear what the hospital say. "It will give us huge problems for Friday's match against Wolverhampton if it is broken." |
