Henry the man for the jobMidfielder's leadership qualities always help the team
Karl Henry: Lost the captaincy to Roger Johnson last summer under Mick McCarthy Relegation-threatened Wolves manager Terry Connor has explained his reasoning for handing the captaincy back to Karl Henry. The midfielder was named skipper for Saturday's damaging defeat by Stoke, which was the first time he has taken the armband since last summer. Former boss Mick McCarthy had selected Roger Johnson as his captain following the centre-back's arrival from Birmingham. But Johnson, regardless, according to Connor, of his clash with team-mate Wayne Hennessey in the loss against Bolton, was dropped for this weekend's trip to the Britannia Stadium. And Connor decided to turn to Henry, as the Wolves boss explained to his club's official website ahead of Wednesday's home game against Arsenal: "I don't think we've missed Karl's leadership, because he's been on the pitch for most of the time. Contribution"I think he's missed just the last four or five games since Fulham. He's been more or less an ever present for us and when he plays, it's with those leadership qualities. "It (losing the captaincy) has not had any effect on Karl. He has continued to produce a high level of performance week-in, week-out. "We've missed him since the Fulham game, but he's back now to make a contribution to the end of the season. "Roger not playing was nothing to do with what happened with Wayne last week. It was more about three goals coming in. I made that decision on a football basis. "With Karl, he has been at the club for a number of years and he's been captain so I gave him the job."
