21:19 Jackson commits to Eagles |
Jackson commits to EaglesReceiver signs five-year deal with PhiladelphiaDeSean Jackson: staying in the City of Brotherly Love for the long term Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson has inked a new five-year contract with the team. The Eagles had used their franchise tag to prevent Jackson, 25, becoming a free agent and have now agreed terms on a long-term deal that is worth a reported $48.5 million. "We are thrilled to be able to keep one of the NFL's top playmakers in Philadelphia," said Eagles coach Andy Reid. "DeSean is a game breaker. He has the speed and ability to score from anywhere on the field, and he has proven himself to be a big threat for our offence." Jackson was selected in the second round of the 2008 draft by the Eagles and has since piled up 4,096 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns in four seasons. He went to the Pro Bowl in 2009 and 2010 but held out of training camp last year because he wanted a contract extension and was deactivated for a game for being late for a team meeting. Jags land RobinsonMeanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars made their first moves of free agency, headlined by the signing of wide receiver Laurent Robinson. Robinson's five-year deal is worth $32.5m, including $14m guaranteed. The Jaguars also re-signed defensive end Jeremy Mincey on a four-year contract worth $20m and brought in back-up quarterback Chad Henne on a two-year deal. |
