League Two round-upRobins and Gulls wins as Bulls hold PilgrimsPaul Benson: Among the goals again as Swindon edged closer to the title Front-running Swindon and Torquay won again on Friday, while the spoils were shared in a crucial basement battle at Edgar Street. Elsewhere, Bradford gave their survival bid a timely boost and Rotherham kept their promotion dreams alive. Swindon edged closer to the League Two title with a narrow Bank Holiday victory over Morecambe, with Paul Benson once again the man of the moment for the Robins as his solitary strike settled a keenly-fought contest. Torquay remain hot on their heels, though, with a Rene Howe effort downing Accrington to ensure the gap at the top remains at five points. High-flying Crawley rescued a dramatic point against in-form Crewe, with Gary Alexander converting from the spot to deny Byron Moore the opportunity to push Alex closer to the play-off pack. Southend suffered a shock defeat at struggling Bradford, with a forgettable afternoon for the Shrimpers seeing them breached by James Hanson and Craig Fagan and reduced to nine men. HuntCheltenham remain inside the promotion-chasing pack after ending their six-match winless run against struggling Barnet, with Kaid Mohamed and James Spencer netting two priceless goals. Gillingham remain in the hunt for a play-off spot after seeing Dennis Oli grab a stoppage-time equaliser to dig them out of a hole in a 2-2 draw with Bristol Rovers. Rotherham find themselves six points adrift of the top seven with five games remaining after seeing Ben Pringle and Sam Hoskins net either side of a Luke Moore effort for AFC Wimbledon. Port Vale made a welcome return to winning ways as Louis Dodds bagged a brace to secure a 2-1 victory over Aldershot, who replied through Wilko Risser. Burton and Dagenham have pulled clear of trouble over recent weeks and there was to be no separating them at Victoria Road, as Brian Woodall pounced late on to cancel out James Maghoma's opener. The biggest game at the bottom came at Hereford and the Bulls battled bravely to take a point off fellow strugglers Plymouth, with Tom Barkhuizen sparing Stefan Stam's blushes after he had put through his own net. |
