Goalkeeper hoping for a positive finish to the SPL season

Allan McGregor: Rangers goalkeeper is targeting a positive finish to the season

Allan McGregor is confident that the Rangers players have started to move on from the financial turmoil which has engulfed the club.

Rangers were placed into administration in February and the subsequent 10-point deduction wrecked any prospects of a successful SPL title defence.

The off-field troubles also coincided with a slump in form on the pitch, but things have started to look up after a run of three straight wins to all-but guarantee second spot.

McGregor now hopes they can continue to deliver on the park until the end of the season, as administrators attempt to identify a buyer for the club behind the scenes.

Difficult

The goalkeeper told Blues News: "It's been difficult, I'm not going to lie - as it has been for everybody involved I'd imagine.

"The uncertainty surrounding the place was hard and the boys made a massive sacrifice by taking the pay cut. So it's been difficult, but it's done now and we need to get on with it.

"I think you can see from the last three games that once it was out of the way we've been better for it.

"Hopefully that can continue to the end of the season and in the meantime a buyer can come in."

Rangers players last month agreed wage cuts of between 25-75% with administrators Duff and Phelps in a bid to avoid widespread redundancies at the club.

Sacrifice

McGregor added: "It's does affect you, and it doesn't matter what you earn if someone takes 75% of that.

"You live by what you're expecting so, if you're not getting that, things change but maybe some people don't see it that way.

"It definitely wasn't nice but, to be honest, I'm surprised we got the chance to save jobs. I thought there might have been people out the door.

"That didn't happen and the boys fought their corner and made a big sacrifice to try to keep everyone at the club.

"I think it helped that a lot of the boys have been here for the last three or four years. We were in it together and it wasn't an easy decision but it was one the boys took together for the benefit of the club."
