Milner - Tevez talk pointless

We must concentrate on our own results, says City midfielder

Milner - Tevez talk pointless

James Milner: Claims there is no point wondering what might have been regarding Carlos Tevez

Manchester City's James Milner believes it is "pointless" speculating what might have been had Carlos Tevez been available all season.

Tevez has netted four goals in two games since returning to the City starting line-up last week, including a hat-trick in Saturday's 6-1 demolition of Norwich at Carrow Road.

The impact of the Argentina international has left many wondering whether City could have wrapped up the Premier League by now if Tevez hadn't had a well-publicised row with boss Roberto Mancini that saw the player out of the team for exactly six months.

But the 26-year-old Milner feels the past is the past and there is no use dwelling on it.

"It's pointless going there really because that's been and gone," said the England international midfielder.

"Carlos is playing for Manchester City and playing well. He got a great hat-trick and Sergio (Aguero) was fantastic.

"There were a number of great performances at the weekend so it's pointless thinking about what might have been.

"We're lucky to have a player like Carlos Tevez playing the way he is and hopefully we get a few more hat-tricks out of him between now and the end of the season."

Tough games

And Milner has not given up on claiming the title this season, despite his team being five points behind rivals Manchester United.

"We'll just keep doing what we've done all year and concentrate on our business," added Milner, speaking at the launch of his foundation that will raise money for charities including NSPCC and Help for Heroes.

"We've got tough games left and we'll try and win the rest of those and see where that takes us.

"Manchester United are obviously a top side. They've got that experience of winning trophies and been there year upon year.

"We've performed well; we've had a great result at the weekend.

"All we can do is concentrate on our business and if that's good enough then great, and if not we'll learn from our mistakes that we've made this year and try and go again next year.

"As players we just concentrate on our own business. There are pressures every time you step out onto the field playing for a club like Manchester City the expectations are there.

"The belief is there from the players and the fans.

"We expect to win every game and so do they - and we know we can beat any side on our day but it's about going out there and playing well on a consistent basis."
