Moyes - Jags will be freshEverton boss backs centre-half for place in Euro 2012 squad
Phil Jagielka: Would be fresh if selected for this summer's Euro finals Everton boss David Moyes believes Phil Jagielka will be fresh if selected for England's Euro 2012 squad after his injury lay-off this term. Jagielka suffered an eight-week lay-off with a medial ligament injury during which time John Heitinga and Sylvain Distin formed an effective partnership. But the former Sheffield United defender, who has 10 England caps, has started the last two games for the Toffees and Moyes has backed the centre-back for a place in the Three Lions' squad for Poland and Ukraine. Moyes said: "In a way, if you are looking at people who could be ready (for Euro 2012), he would be fresh because he missed eight weeks in the middle (of the season). "There should be no sort of tiredness with Jagielka, that is for sure, and he is a top player. He has played really well. "He had one injury which was a medial ligament injury. That was a bad one. "It kept him out but since he has come back he has been fine." Everton next take on Sunderland at Goodison Park on Easter Monday and Moyes admits it will be hard to keep focus ahead of Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool. Naive"It would be naive if in some way it didn't affect them, but I hope not," he said. "We are in a pretty good league position (seventh) - better than maybe we thought we were going to be in and we want to try and hang on to that if we can. "All you can ever do is focus on the next game which is always important. "We will try and get them focused." Moyes will be looking for Nikica Jelavic to carry on his excellent form against the Black Cats after the former Rangers man scored his fourth and fifth goals for the club since his January switch in the 2-2 draw with Norwich last time. "We couldn't score at all in the first half of the season and he makes us look like we are going to do it more often," Moyes said. "He has adapted really well."
