Utah had won six in a row heading into the Philips Arena clash which became the first NBA match to go to a fourth period of overtime since Portland and Phoenix went the same distance in 1997. Johnson was particularly influential in overtime. Team-mate Josh Smith also scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds, while Utah were led by Al Jefferson with 28 points.

The Oklahoma City Thunder were too strong for fellow high-flyers the Miami Heat, Kevin Durant pouring in 28 points, including four from five three-point attempts, in a 103-87 victory.

Kevin Love had another big game for the Minnesota Timberwolves and this time it was rewarded. Having scored 51 points against Oklahoma on Friday, and still finished on the losing side, this time Love's 30 points and 21 rebounds helped to bring about a 117-100 win over Denver.

Lakers stunned

The Los Angeles Lakers slipped up in front of their home fans at Staples Center, losing 102-96 to Memphis. Andrew Bynum had a 30-point game for the Lakers, but found limited support while seven Grizzlies made double figures.

San Antonio have won four straight after Tony Parker scored a team-high 21 points in their 93-76 victory over Philadelphia.

Boston were 88-76 winners against Washington, while the Phoenix Suns overpowered Cleveland 108-83 and the Portland Trail Blazers edged out Golden State 90-87.
