The Kings moved clear of the inactive Phoenix Coyotes at the top of the Pacific division and strengthened their position in the play-off race, as Slava Voynov gave them the lead early in the final stanza before Dwight King made sure late on.

There were also late goals for the Tampa Bay Lightning as Steven Stamkos scored twice in the final 63 seconds to beat Washington 4-2 and damage the Capitals' play-off push.

Washington had come back to tie it late in the final period, but Stamkos' brace left them in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, only two points ahead of the Buffalo Sabres, who have three games left to play compared to two for Washington.
