Coventry loanee relishing Burnley clash

Norwood eyes birthday bonus

Oliver Norwood: Confident Coventry can escape relegation from the Championship

Coventry loan star Oliver Norwood admits three points against Burnley this weekend would be the perfect belated birthday present for him.

The Sky Blues currently find themselves four points adrift of safety, with just four games left this season in the Championship.

Norwood, who is on loan from Manchester United, turned 21 on Thursday and he admits there would be no better place to celebrate his recent birthday than with a win against home-town club Burnley.

"It is a massive game for us on Saturday and it is going to be a very hard game as well," Norwood told Sky Sports.

"Obviously it is a big game for me personally as it is my home-town club and I grew up as a Burnley fan so it will be a special occasion.

"It would be great if we can go there and get the three points as it would be a nice birthday present."

Capitalise

Norwood admits Coventry are relying on Bristol City slipping up if they are to get out of trouble and he knows they must capitalise if they see their relegation rivals drop points.

"We are looking for Bristol City to slip up and we have to be ready to pounce if they do," added Norwood.

"The run-in is going to be massive and I know Bristol City have to play Birmingham and West Ham in the next two games and who knows if we can win at the weekend and next Tuesday we could be out of the bottom three."

Despite their precarious position, Norwood, who is out of contract at Old Trafford this summer, insists the whole squad remains hopeful they can get themselves out of trouble.

"We are all very confident we can get out of trouble," added Norwood. "We have been confident all along and we know there are still plenty of points to play for.

"The gaffer has told us to keep believing and stay relaxed and keep playing our football and hopefully we will get enough points to survive."

Midfield schemer Norwood has impressed at the Ricoh Arena, scoring two goals in 12 appearances since arriving from United in the January transfer window.

The Northern Ireland international, who is thought to have attracted the interest of a number of clubs with his performances with Coventry, believes he has improved as a player from his time with Andy Thorn's side.

"I feel like my game has come on and thankfully I hit the ground running when I arrived at Coventry," added Norwood.

"I have enjoyed it at Coventry and the fans have taken to me which has been great.

"It would be unbelievable if we could stay in the league and everyone is determined to make sure we do stay up."
