Pod - Don't overdo itDubliner looking to sharpen up on the greens before first roundPadraig Harrington: Will be careful not to over-practice at Augusta National Padraig Harrington will be making sure he does not over-practice ahead of the start of The Masters on Thursday. Harrington, a three-time major champion, is renowned as one of the game's great workers with a penchant for tinkering with his game and putting in endless hours on the range. However, the 40-year-old insists he will be careful not to overdo things before the first round at Augusta, claiming the idiosyncrasies of the historic course can sometimes lead you to try and cram in too much work before the off. "I've played it over a number of years and the one thing you've got to be careful of is that you can't prepare yourself for everything," he told Sky Sports. "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday here you can overdo things and then when you get going on Thursday it's not quite the same as you were playing Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday! "Of all the majors it's probably the one you least need a practice round." Putting problemsBut the Dubliner did reveal he would be working hard on his putting before Thursday having admitted he is not currently as sharp as he would like on the greens. "Game's good, putting is not quite so good, so hopefully we can turn that around this week," he revealed. While many feel the tournament could become a shoot-out between three or four of the big names, Harrington believes there are numerous candidates that could come up trumps this week. "There's a lot of quality players, it goes a lot deeper at the moment," he added. "There's no clear favourite. "I'm sure many people have their favourites, but I'm sure you could sit down in most golf clubs and people would be pulling for ten different players and arguing the reasons why they're going to win. "It's good for golf that it's as open as it is and certainly if I wasn't playing I'd be watching!" |
