Poyet has brought Sam Vokes, Joe Mattock, Gonzalo Jara Reyes, Gai Assulin and Abdul Razak to the AMEX Stadium in 2012, but the signings have had mixed results.

Though the Seagulls started the calendar year with a 12-match unbeaten run in the Championship, a sequence of one win in seven games has all-but ended their play-off hopes.

"We still need to improve a lot and that is something we are working on," said Poyet in The Argus.

"I am always asking can I have my whole squad by the first of July so that everything we need to train for is done in July.

"We start the season then with players that are going to play 40 games so there is not a lot to train for during the season, just little details.

"This year we've had five or six different loan players coming and going and you need to restart again.

"We've been trying to convince them there are things we want and that hasn't worked.

"We have got different ways of playing from the back and we couldn't do it as well as we should because of the new players, because you don't have time to repeat things on the training ground to go and do in games."
