Rebels reject Pocock rumourFranchise will be losing European duo Cipriani and DelveDavid Pocock: the flanker is yet to sign a new contract with the Western Force The Melbourne Rebels have dismissed reports they could be set to sign David Pocock, insisting the Australia international is not in their plans. The Zimbabwe-born flanker is out of contract with the Western Force, the team he has represented for his entire senior career, at the end of the Super Rugby season. As yet the 23-year-old has not signed a new deal, sparking speculation that he could follow fellow Wallabies James O'Connor and Kurtley Beale in moving to Melbourne. However the Rebels say the rumours are "nonsense" and that while Pocock is a "wonderful player", he is not on their shopping list for 2013. "It never ceases to amaze us where this nonsense comes from. There is absolutely no basis of fact in this report," Melbourne chief Steven Boland said. "I am on record as saying we think David is a wonderful player, but he is not in our plans." Melbourne will have salary space for next year due to the departures of fly-half Danny Cipriani, who is returning to his native England to join Sale Sharks, and Wales flanker Gareth Delve. |
