The left-arm seamer starred predominantly in Lancashire's Friends Life t20 campaign last season 12 wickets including a career-best return of 3-12 against Derbyshire.

The move, which requires approval from the Pakistan Cricket Board, allows the 22-year-old to be available for all competitions this time around and stay until the end of the season if required.

"Junaid gave some outstanding performances for us in T20 cricket last season particularly with his bowling at the end of an innings," said director of cricket Mike Watkinson.

"He is also keen to spend additional time around the squad so that he can continue to develop his all round game."

Head coach Peter Moores added: "Junaid showed last season his ability to win a game from almost any situation.

"His strength at bowling in powerplays and at the end of the innings in one-day cricket adds another dimension to the squad and it will be great to have him back."

Junaid will join South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince as Lancashire's overseas players for 2012.
