22:50 Ref justice? Not for Brown |
Ref justice? Not for BrownVeivers not impressed with his City Reds after heavy away defeatNathan Brown: backed referee Robert Hicks Nathan Brown admitted Huddersfield still needed to be more clinical despite seeing them defeat Salford 36-10 at the Galpharm Stadium. The Giants crossed six times, including a brace from hooker Tommy Lee, to return to the top of the Stobart Super League table in fine style. However the final margin of victory could have been even bigger had the hosts not had several tries chalked off, Leroy Cudjoe and Kevin Brown both having efforts ruled out by the officials. Referee Robert Hicks was booed off at the end of the game but Brown was quick to back the official, insisting he had no complaints over the scores that were not given. "Any time you've scored 36 points and had tries ruled out means you've done well. And I've no problem with the ones that were ruled out," he said. "I thought the last passes were a fraction forward. That's something we'll have to work on. We've got to make sure we get the last passes right." Defensive effortsDanny Brough landed six goals to take his tally to 27 for the season, though Brown - who this week confirmed he will be joining St Helens next year - was particularly pleased with his team's efforts without the ball in the second half. "Salford have got forwards who can be dangerous and they were on top in the first half. To restrict them to only 10 points is therefore pleasing," he added. "But I thought our defence wasn't good in the first half for the second time in two weeks. We did better after the break, but it's something we'll have to look at." Salford coach Phil Veivers was not impressed with his City Reds but was quick to praise the performance of Huddersfield's Greg Eden, who touched down late on to crown an impressive display at full-back. "If I was a fan watching that I'd be sticking needles in my eyes. But as a coach it was even worse," he said. "We worked a lot in the week on contact and the wrestle, yet Huddersfield still out-wrestled us. We'll have to look at that again. It's a matter of pride. You don't want to lose like that. "But Huddersfield played us really well in the physical battle around the back. I thought Greg Eden was particularly outstanding for them. He's a pretty special talent." |
