21:30 Reveley to ride for Murphy |
Reveley to ride for MurphyYoung jockey to take over from Graham LeeReveley: Will ride for Ferdy Murphy Ferdy Murphy has revealed that James Reveley, who started the season as stable jockey for Nick Williams, will be his principal rider next season. Murphy's yard was dealt a blow last month when stable jockey Graham Lee announced that he would be switching codes to ride on the Flat when he returns from his latest injury setback. The trainer has moved quickly to secure a replacement of sorts, although rather than being a fully-fledged stable jockey to Murphy, Reveley will also continue riding for his father, Keith Reveley. Murphy said: "Hopefully he'll ride one or two of ours when he's available for the next few weeks and then he'll ride a lot more for us next season. "He's been in and schooled a couple of times already and the idea would be that he'll come in and school a couple of days a week next season. "He'll still ride for his dad. I've known Keith a while anyway and I think it will work out grand for us all. "If me and Keith have runners in the same race, James will probably ride whichever horse he thinks has the best chance. "We've looked at a few jockeys, but we thought it was important to get someone who knew the northern tracks and James is one of the top men. "We'll still have Lucy Alexander ride for us and we have some other conditional jockeys as well, so the whole thing should work well. "We wanted to make sure we had someone with experience to ride in the big races for us and we're lucky to get James to do that." Reveley, who has ridden 53 winners this season and has enjoyed plenty of success in France, is equally looking forward to the new association. He said: "It'll be great to get on a few of Ferdy's horses next season, it's a good yard to be involved with. "I've been in and schooled a couple of times and it's a really good set-up. Ferdy has quite a French-style of training and I've always thought it would be a yard that would be good to be involved with. "I'll still be riding for my dad as well and hopefully everything works out well. I've had a good year this year and hopefully it will be the same next season." Reveley started this season off as number one jockey to Nick Williams. But as Williams is based in Devon and Reveley is frequently more in demand on the northern circuit than in the south, the partnership has never really taken off. However, Reveley guided the Williams-trained Maljimar to win a cross-country race at Fontainebleau on Wednesday and hopes to maintain links with the yard. "Hopefully I'll still be riding Nick's horses in France and we'll go from there," the jockey added. "There were never any firm ties in place at the start, we just said we'd give it a go and see what happens and it hasn't worked out as we would have liked. "I will hopefully continue riding his horses in France and I think Nick is just going to use the best available on his horses in Britain and see who his owners want to ride. "It's nice to be involved with the good yards and hopefully that continues." |
