Robins open with winBut Birmingham snatch pointSwindon Robins opened their Sky Sports Elite League campaign with a 49-43 victory over Birmingham Brummies, who came away from the Abbey Stadium with a point. The Robins' new look side dominated for much of the meeting despite conceding a 5-1 in the opening heat. After hitting back with their own 5-1 in the second heat through their reserves Peter Kildemand and Robin Aspergen, they were never behind again. Indeed Swindon pushed on strongly with GP star Hans Andersen excelling on his debut and he finished as top-scorer with 12-points. The Robins actually went ten points up after ten heats but that gave Birmingham the chance to use the tactical ride and Bjarne Pedersen donned the black and white with great effect as he helped the visitors to a 7-2. Swindon continued to turn on the pressure, before disaster struck in Heat 15 as they conceded a 5-0 with neither of their riders seeing the chequered flag. A 3-3 in Heat 15 and that meant Birmingham had snatched a point for finishing with seven points. |
