The Olympic champion won in a combined time of two minutes and 27.24 seconds to win the crystal globe for the second time, and now hopes to become a better all-round performer.

"To win the giant slalom globe once was OK, but to win it twice shows that I'm up there," said the German.

"Now I'd like to go a step further as an all-rounder. I know I'm not so far from competing with the very best."

She was referring to Lindsey Vonn, who finished second in the giant slalom standings but picked up her fourth globe of the season in the overall with a women's record of 1,980 points.

However, requiring the 12th place she needed to beat the 2,000 points scored by Hermann Maier 12 years ago, Vonn missed out after losing a pole at the start of the second run.

"It's both the happiest and the saddest day of my season," said the American. It was fine to get to the first record but to miss the second by 20 points.

"It looked like it was not meant to happen. I never ever lost a pole, not even in training.

"I certainly did not expect to finish the season like this but I can't forget the rest of it. It was an unbelievable season."

Austria's Anna Fenninger was second in the race, 0.64 behind and Italy's Federica Brignone third, 1:24 adrift.
