The 31-year-old now faces two months of rehabilitation but hopes to be fully fit for next season, which culminates in the World Championships in Schaldming.

"The operation went well, without any complications," said team doctor Martin Gruber, adding Kroell would probably leave hospital within a matter of days.

"An injury like this is not ideal of course," the skier added.

"Now I need to focus completely on my rehabilitation so I can kick off this World Championship winter without any problems."
