The win would have enabled the Sky Blues to climb away from the relegation zone after Cody McDonald's header and Gary McSheffrey's penalty cancelled out Sinclair's opener.

However, the recalled Posh striker had the final say in the game when he popped up 14 minutes from time to ensure his side a point from an exciting contest in which the woodwork was hit four times.

The point extended Coventry's unbeaten run to seven games and sets up Easter Monday's game with relegation rivals Bristol City.

"I thought we showed great character to come back from one down, real determination," Thorn said.

"We got our heads in front and then we dominated possession and created chances but, fair play to them, their 'keeper did well to get his hand on a few things and we're disappointed to concede the second in the manner we did.

"I thought this would be our banana skin today because Peterborough are a form team, they're are a good, well-managed side.

"At the end of the day it's another point towards where we want to get.

"After the start I would have taken it, but when we're in front and we had those chances I'm a little disappointed we didn't see it over the line.

"But we move on and it's another game unbeaten. Another point picked up."

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson was also happy with the point, which keeps his side out of immediate danger in the relegation race but still not mathematically certain of their second-tier status for another season.

"It was a hard-earned point," he said. "I've just said to the players that it's something we haven't done enough of.

"We've lost too many games where we could have picked points up, especially at home.

"It's a good point for us because it keeps them (Coventry) nine below us and a deserved one in terms of the determination we had not to lose the game."

Posh host another side in and around them in Nottingham Forest on Monday, and Ferguson added: "This weekend is always very, very pivotal in any season.

"Whether you're trying to stay in the league, going for the play-offs or going for automatic promotion, it's a big weekend for all teams - and in this league there's not many teams who aren't playing for anything.

"If we come out of the weekend unscathed then I'll be delighted."

Sinclair's exquisite lofted 25-yard opener after just three minutes was by far the most eye-catching of the 33 shots in total during an open encounter at the Ricoh Arena.

But the Posh forward himself admitted he caught it better than he intended.

"I was shooting but I looked up, saw the 'keeper off the line, and as I shot it wasn't actually a chip. But I thought if I catch him off the line it'll go in," added Sinclair.
