London Welsh keep hold of Jackson, Ajuwa and Bateman

Trio boost Exiles

Ed Jackson: Powerful ball-carrying number eight staying at London Welsh

Ed Jackson, Joe Ajuwa and Greg Bateman have agreed contract extensions with promotion-chasing London Welsh.

After joining the club last summer, the trio have helped take the Exiles to within one point of reaching the Championship semi-finals for a third successive year.

London Welsh head coach Lyn Jones is delighted to have secured their signatures, believing it shows the club, who currently top Pool A, are moving forward.

He told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to see these boys are staying on board, with so many other offers on the table.

"It's a positive sign that the club is moving forward and that the boys as individuals have improved and enjoyed the London Welsh experience."

Powerful ball-carrying number eight Jackson joined Welsh from Doncaster and has gone on to score 11 tries in 28 appearances.

Good time

"I was happy to re-sign at London Welsh," he said. "I've had a good time so far this year - it's a great bunch of players and a good coaching staff.

"It's nice to be playing a good standard of rugby week in, week out and I feel that it's helped my game a huge amount. After what London Welsh have done for me this season, it was an easy decision for me to re-sign.

"Our play-off pool is now ours for the taking. We'd obviously like to finish top, but as long as we can pick up that one point and make it through to the semi-finals we'll be happy."

Winger Ajuwa has notched 11 tries in 22 appearances, while Bateman has crossed three times in his 17 appearances.

"My rugby has improved a lot this year under Lyn and from the conversations I've had with him, we view the game in the same way," said Bateman.

"I'm really pleased to still be part of it and I don't think there's any other club I'd want to be a part of next season than London Welsh."
