Trott's golden dreamsBritain's new golden girl on the track talks about her journey so far
Laura Trott: British cyclist is hoping to repeat her World Championships success at the 2012 Olympics Laura Trott has emerged as Britain's golden hope on the track this summer and yet insists she is still not certain of a place in the team for London 2012. The 19-year-old, who won double gold at the World Track Cycling Championships earlier in April, told Sky Sports News Radio: "I'm still not guaranteed my place officially on the team for 2012, but yes I have thought about it - it's pretty surreal for me." Winning both the team pursuit, alongside team-mates Joanna Rowsell and Dani King, and the omnium event in Melbourne, Trott admits that at times it still feels odd being on the British team with such high-profile names. "It's really nice; it feels like we are one big family. I get on with them all really well, they tell me the things that they've done, and it just makes you feel a bit more relaxed and a bit more confident," she added. "It gets pretty mad - I've watched them in Beijing and now I'm on the same team as them." British Cycling performance director Dave Brailsford praised Trott as a prodigious talent after her performances in Melbourne, something which the cyclist was very proud of. "Dave doesn't give out compliments that easily so to hear the boss say that it was pretty nice," she said. "It (the double gold victory) was amazing; I really didn't expect it at all. The team pursuit I thought maybe we could win gold because we had done at the World Cup; the omnium came as a complete shock for me!" PreparationBorn with a collapsed lung, Trott originally took up swimming in order to regulate her breathing as a young child, however she moved onto cycling when she was eight as her family took up the sport. Her mother was advised to try Welwyn track and Trott said: "That was that really - from that Monday night we went down to the track every Monday and Friday." Hoping to gain a spot for the Games in both the team pursuit and the omnium, Trott is now preparing for some training camps in Majorca and Belgium in the coming weeks. She will then reunite with the team in the middle of May and begin to train on the track again. With some solid support around her, including her road cyclist sister Emma, Trott is incredibly excited at the prospect of a home Olympics. "It will make such a difference being a home Games," she said. "This isn't going to come round again, not in my lifetime, so it is extra special - especially because it is my first one. "The Worlds were probably the best I've ever gone; I think I've set myself up nicely. I just try to do the very best I can but obviously I want to win two gold's especially after winning two at the Worlds. "It is a once in a lifetime opportunity - I can dream and I would dream two gold medals if I could."
