Having been schooled at the famed Ajax academy system, the Dutchman has built a distinguished career on his playmaking abilities.

He has graced some of the biggest stages in football, including the World Cup final, and has turned out for leading clubs in Holland, Germany, Spain and England.

Van der Vaart feels comfortable in sides that like to play the game the right way and is thoroughly enjoying his time at White Hart Lane.

He thrives on the responsibility of being a creative dictator and admits he would not be happy turning out for a team that sets out to break up play and frustrate opponents.

"When you come to White Hart Lane you expect to see a show," Van der Vaart told France Football.

"It is in the club's genes and that's what football has to be, a show.

"When I hear coaches saying after a boring 0-0 that they controlled the game, I believe that is so disheartening.

"Street football is in our genes in Holland. It not only teaches you how to dribble in tight spaces, but also to fight. It gives you the ability to see if your opponent is stronger than you."
