Youngster targeting Austria call-up

Weimann aiming to stun United

Andreas Weimann: Looking to get something from the game at Old Trafford

Aston Villa newcomer Andreas Weimann thinks his team can pull off a shock result when they visit Manchester United on Sunday.

The Austria Under-21 player has made a big impact at Villa, netting two key goals in recent weeks, and believes his team can put a dent in the champions' title hopes.

Villa have form for producing upsets on their travels having won at Chelsea earlier this season as well as beating Manchester United on their own turf in December 2009.

And the 20-year-old striker is relishing the prospect of showing what he can do at Old Trafford.

He said: "We are all looking forward because Old Trafford is a brilliant place and I think we will go there positive.

"They are the games as a young player you want to play in and I've never been to Old Trafford so to be involved will be brilliant.

Special

"Manchester United have been a top team for years and to go there is special.

"But we are not going there thinking we are going to lose. We are going to try and get something out of the game.

"It's not long ago that Gabby (Agbonlahor) scored the winner there so why not again? We drew against a big club away in Liverpool and won at another in Chelsea so why can't we do it again?"

Academy graduate Weimann is also targeting a first senior call-up from his country.

"That is a goal for me," said Weimann. "I've played for the Under-21s and, to play for the first team of your country, is probably the biggest honour you can have.

"I have to try and get into that team. There are World Cup qualifiers in September. I'll just keep playing here, as many games as I can, and that will help me."

Weimann has had a patient wait for his Villa opportunity but was thrust into the limelight thanks to his last-gasp winner as a substitute at home to Fulham before scoring a stunning goal against Stoke on Easter Monday.

Unbelievable

He said: "I'd dreamt of that day when I scored my first Villa goal for a long time and to do it in front of the Holte End as well was special.

"The fans and everyone went crazy, and it was a big relief for us as we'd not won at home for a long time and for me it was an unbelievable feeling.

"I'd scored on loan at Watford but you want to score at Villa because it's in the Premier League, the best league in the world.

"The Fulham goal was a tap-in really but against Stoke I also showed that I could hit a ball and it was up there with the best goals I've scored."

And Weimann hopes he can now become a regular in the Villa starting line-up, adding: "When you're on the pitch, you have to try and stay in the team. I'll try every time I'm out there to do my best and show the manager what I can do.

"We'll see if I get another chance. When you come into football you want to play as many games as you can.

"Now I have the taste for it, I want to get a few more games, but it's up to the gaffer."
