Holt cools England talk

Striker scored 15th goal of the season against Everton

Holt cools England talk

Grant Holt: Continued a fine season with the equaliser against Everton but is playing down talk of an England call-up

Grant Holt insists he is not thinking about an England call-up despite continuing his fine season with the equaliser against Everton at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Holt's 76th minute strike against the Toffees was his 13th Premier League goal of the campaign and 15th across all competitions.

It means Holt is still the second highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League this season, only behind Wayne Rooney.

With Rooney suspended for England's first game of Euro 2012 and Darren Bent injured, there appears to be an opening in the striking role for the Three Lions this summer.

Holt, who has never received a call-up, has been put forward as an answer to England's striking conundrum.

However, speaking to Sky Sports after the Everton game the powerful striker insists he is not worrying himself over a potential international call-up.

"They've been looking for a while but they might as well keeping looking and see what happens," said Holt, who turns 31 next week.

"We will see who gets the job and we'll worry about that when it comes."

Switching back to matters on the pitch Holt highlighted the team's fighting spirit that saw them twice come from behind against David Moyes' men.

The draw also means the Canaries have reached 40 points, a tally often seen as good enough to ensure safety.

Holt admits it is a great achievement to reach that points haul but insists the squad will keep trying to pick up as many results as possible in their remaining six games.

"We have not had the rewards in recent weeks and it looked to be going the same way today," he added.

"We showed the desire to get back into the game.

We've got great team spirit, we've shown that all year, we're keen to go and win games and when we go forward we are confident of scoring.

"I thought the lads performed well in the second half and we are disappointed in the end not to get the three points.

"But it is another point to where we want to be and we're delighted with the performance.

"We're just looking to get safe and keep going and hopefully try and finish as high as we can."
