The 49-year-old has been appointed as Andy Scott's successor at Don Valley after he opted to leave League Two rivals Crawley, despite them being in the race for automatic promotion.

Evans has signed a three-year contract and believes he can take the Millers back to the second tier.

"You only have to look at the vision of the chairman and the board of where they want to take the football club and if those plans weren't in place, I wouldn't be here," he told the club's official website.

"I felt I could take Crawley to League One for sure, but beyond that I wasn't sure, but I think I can take Rotherham to the Championship.

"People can like it or lump it, but the rollercoaster starts now and there is going to be some good times ahead."
