NHL: Hat-trick hero BrownKings move 2-0 up in play-off series thanks to 4-2 win
Dustin Brown (l): Hat-trick hero Dustin Brown scored a hat-trick as the Los Angeles Kings moved 2-0 up on the top-seeded Vancouver Canucks in their NHL Western Conference play-off thanks to a 4-2 win on Friday. Brown, who also scored in the opening victory earlier in the week, was on target nine seconds before the end of the first period, before Jannik Hansen levelled just 17 seconds into the second. Brown netted five minutes later and again in the third period, before Trevor Lewis added a fourth to give the Kings a two-game advantage in the quarter-final series. Vancouver, who pulled a second back late on through Samuel Pahlsson, will attempt to claw their way back into the seven-match series when the sides move to Los Angeles for game three on Sunday. Hat-tricksElsewhere, Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux both scored hat-tricks as the Philadelphia Flyers rallied to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 8-5 and also take a 2-0 lead in their series. The Flyers trailed 3-1, 4-3 and 5-4, before four straight goals in the third period saw them earn the victory. The Detroit Red Wings levelled their series with the Nashville Predators at 1-1 with a 3-2 win. Ian White and Cory Emmerton put the Red Wings 2-0 up in the first and the Predators could not bridge the gap. Finally, three goals in the first period helped the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 win over Florida Panthers in the opening game of their series. Patrik Elias, Dainius Zubrus and Ryan Carter scored the Devils' goals.
