Portugal have moved up two places to fifth, relegating England to the position they occupied immediately after the 2010 World Cup.

Spain continue to lead the way, and managerless England are the fifth-ranked European team - also behind second-placed Germany, Holland in fourth and the Portuguese.

Copa America winners Uruguay are the highest non-European team in third, their best rating yet, with Brazil sixth.

Further down the rankings, Republic of Ireland share 18th place with Switzerland, and both Wales (41st) and Scotland (48th) have risen.

But Northern Ireland are down to 100th, below the likes of Guyana, Uganda and Bahrain.

Denmark returned to the top 10, just a month after dropping out, and occupy their highest position for almost 15 years at ninth. Making way for them in the top 10 were Italy, who slipped to 12th place.

Romania (45th), Libya (46th), and El Salvador (49th) all enter the top 50 while the biggest movers were North Korea, who jumped 25 places to 86th. Fellow Asian Challenge Cup group winners Turkmenistan gained the most points, 108, as they climbed 24 places to 142nd.

Georgia were the biggest fallers, down 21 places to 95th, in a month in which only 24 international matches were played worldwide.
