Robson's compatriot Anne Keothavong, a first-round winner over Melinda Czink, is set to face second seed Angelique Kerber of Germany in the second round on Thursday.

Fifth seed Kaia Kanepi of Estonia edged out Hungary's Timea Babos 7-5 4-6 7-6 (7/2) in their second-round match, while sixth-seeded German Mona Barthel was a 6-3 6-2 victor over Italy's Alberta Brianti at the same stage.

Also on Wednesday, Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski won her first-round encounter with Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland 6-3 6-4.

And there were second-round victories for Croat Petra Martic and Frenchwoman Alize Cornet.
