Martinez ready for UnitedWigan manager says his side can overturn their dismal record
Roberto Martinez: Wigan Athletic manager believes his side can defy the odds against Manchester United Roberto Martinez says Wigan are capable of upsetting Manchester United when the sides meet at the DW stadium on Wednesday. The Latics have lost all 14 games they have played against the champions, conceding 46 goals, but the Spaniard believes his side are showing signs that they can improve their record against the top teams. Wigan gained a point at Liverpool, before losing to a last minute goal at Chelsea on Saturday, and Martinez believes they can take heart from both displays. He said: "The performances we have had at Anfield and Stamford Bridge this season have got rid of that block. Perfect"Against Manchester United, you have to be perfect, and we know now we can be perfect against these sides. "We have been able to play at a very good standard in the last nine games and that is what pleases me most," he continued. "That shows the group is ready to compete against anyone." Martinez knows it will be tough, but insisted the club are relishing the task. He said: "We are now facing the champions and the team most in form in the league. It is a great football occasion for us. That is why we want to be in this league."
