MLB: Yankees triumphOrioles suffer heart-breaking defeat to the Yankees
Raul Ibanez: Scored an RBI double The New York Yankees claimed a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles after Raul Ibanez scored an RBI double in the 12th innings. Despite Derek Jeter's first home run of the season, the Yankees trailed 4-1 going into the sixth. But they eked out three runs in the sixth to level, then Ibanez did the damage in extras and Mariano Rivera notched his first save of 2012. Home runs from Davis Freese and Carlos Beltran helped the St Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds. Beltran homered in the first while Freese added a two-run shot in the sixth to give Kyle Kohse all the support he needed. Lohse turned in a strong performance, conceding one run on four hits over six innings as the Cardinals improved to 5-1. Jones joyChipper Jones hit a two-run homer in his first start of his final season to help the Atlanta Braves to a 6-4 win over the Houston Astros. It was the 455th long ball of the 39-year-old's career and helped the Braves secure their first win of the season. A snow shower in Detroit did not stop the Tigers beating the Tampa Bay Rays 5-2 in a match-up between two teams who went into the game with perfect records. Austin Jackson homered for the Tigers. Daniel Bard's first start for the Boston Red Sox did not go as planned as the converted set-up man gave up five runs in five-plus innings in a 7-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. Neftali Feliz, in a similar situation to Bard in Texas, fared considerably better as he pitched seven scoreless innings in the Rangers' 1-0 win over the Seattle Mariners. Chris Young's two-run shot in the 11th lifted the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-2 win over the San Diego Padres. Andre Ethier's homer in the eighth saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1. The Washington Nationals ended the New York Mets' perfect start to the season as they claimed a 6-2 win. The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 7-4 and the Kansas City Royals saw off the Oakland Athletics 3-0.
